A GLIMPSE INTO HEATHER AND TIMMI’S CRYSTALLIZED MORNING ROUTINE
Mornings should be a time of peace, but more often than not, they’re a hectic mess. Establishing a morning routine or ritual, whether it’s an hour long process or a one minute activity—will help get you aligned with the energy that you want to bring into your day. Our Energy Muse co-founders, Heather Askinosie and Timmi Jandro, got together to share their morning rituals in this edition of Crystal of the Week.
Timmi’s Morning Routine
For Timmi, mornings are about getting into a place of grounded gratitude. To start her morning off right, she begins by getting out of bed, and taking the selenite crystal out of her bra. While it may sound extreme to sleep with a piece of selenite on your chest, there’s something about the purifying, harmonizing energy of selenite that helps Timmi rest easier and wake up recharged in the morning. After setting down the selenite, she picks up her rose quartz heart. Rose quartz opens her heart chakra to let in love and appreciation. This is the perfect crystal to match with her gratitude and mindfulness journaling practice. While there are many different ways that you can journal, Timmi enjoys simply writing down 3 things which she was grateful for the day before. Thinking about these things gives a sense of thankfulness and love that can she take into the day ahead.
Lastly, Timmi likes to she grab ahold of her clear quartz John of God necklace, and use it as a rosary for repeating her morning prayers. Like a mantra that you’d use in meditation, this practice brings Timmi into a state of calm. It was exactly that state of calm that Heather was chasing when she recently decided to shift her morning routine.
Heather’s Morning Routine
Heather’s morning routine that she performed for the past two decades would probably make the average person, who wakes up with just enough time to get dressed and out the door, scream. The hour long process included saging the entire house, changing out water offering bowls, meditation chants, kundalini breathing, adaptogens and more bio hacks than we have time to talk about. For a long time, this worked for Heather, giving her a foundation which she could use to build the rest of her day on. About two weeks ago, Heather noticed that her mind and spirit weren’t really in the ritual anymore. The morning routine had become, well, routine. It was less about getting her in the right mindset, and more about continuing to do the same things out of habit.
When Heather thought about what mindset she was looking to shift into now, she recognized why she was no longer connecting to her old morning practice. What Heather needed was to experience the simplicity of raw feeling. So she decided to create a new ritual that would function to bring her out of her comfort zone and into a space of feeling. Heather’s ritual now only uses one quartz crystal point, and has gone from an hour long routine to a one minute mindful morning practice.
She begins by taking her quartz crystal point, and using it to draw an invisible circle and cross in the air over her crown chakra. This is a sort of anointing gesture that she uses to open herself up to the energy of the universe. She draws the same symbol on the back of her neck for energy protection, as it believed by some cultures that the back of the neck is the point where unwanted energy enters the body. The final place that she marks this symbol with is over the heart chakra. This serves to open the heart up to feel more, while also offering some emotional protection. Though this shorter ritual at first made Heather uncomfortable, as she had become so accustomed to the longer ritual, she recognized that discomfort as growth. She forced herself to push through, and engage in why simplicity was uncomfortable for her and how she could find joy in the rawness of life. Two weeks in, and she’s loving her new mindful morning routine.
The point of juxtaposing these two routines is to convey that there’s no one right way to start your morning. Whether you need a longer ritual to establish the right spiritual space for your day, or a shorter ritual to open yourself up to clarity, do what’s right for you. As long as you are beginning your mornings with a mindful intention, you are preparing yourself to succeed.
